Westminster......Service to Others....Through Christ, You can Make a Difference!
These opportunities are ways to serve both at Westminster and in the community.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance provides funds to Haiti relief through donations. Check their website as to how you can donate to relief efforts.
Another way is to make Church World Service Hygiene Kits.
A Meaningful Way to Serve The Funeral Reception Committee needs volunteers who can spend 2 or 3 day-time hours a year (yes, you will be gently used) helping to either set-up, serve, or clean-up at funeral receptions. Please contact Funeral Reception Chair, Dail Stutsman at 815-654-3319 or dailstutsman@comcast.net if you are interested in helping. Thank you and God bless!
Paper Products Needed For Carpenter’s Place Carpenter’s Place, a daytime rescue mission, and various Rockford organizations provide meals to their guests every weekday. For sanitary and practical reasons, paper products are necessary. As they use up to 750 plates and cups every week, clearly this is a serious expense. Westminster’s Deacon’s Caring Committee collects various types of “paper” products for Carpenter’s Place. They need: 9-10” Styrofoam plates, 6” paper plates, 8 oz. Styrofoam cups, napkins, paper towels and plastic eating utensils. Please place your donations in the labeled boxes at each church entrance. On behalf of Carpenter’s Place, thank you for helping them to complete their mission of serving the less fortunate. Please call Cynthia Hallden at 815-654-9868 if you have any questions.
Rock River Valley Food Pantry NEED increases! How about picking up a can of Chunky Soup-it makes a whole meal for someone. Check out this website for a list of those items most needed: www.1extrabag.org. (Peanut butter and cereal are also great selections). Place in the “brick” barrel in the coat room at the Bell School Road Entrance. A second container for food donations is now located in the coat room at the Spring Creek entrance. Also needed are large paper grocery sacks. Many, many, thanks!! To know more details about the pantry ask Hank Curran or Wayne Taylor (815-703-3119). Be a Shepherd! A wonderful way to meet your WPC neighbors. What's a shepard? A person who serves as a contact person for your neighborhood. Shepards send out birthday cards, occasionally meet for coffee or desert at church and provide a connection to the church. If you're interested, be sure to ask Pastor Bill Ward.
Prepare a lunch for the homeless at Carpenter's Place one day each month. You are needed to prepare, transport or serve food! This is a unique opportunity to both feed the hungry and build community with our brothers and sisters who serve at Carpenter's Place. You can serve by helping with the evening preparation as well as serving during the day. Call the church office-282-1500 for more info.
The Children’s Clothes Closet is in need of good, used clothing (infants thru sz.14) In short supply right now are winter coats, size 3 girls clothing, and short sleeved t-shirts. There is a wicker trunk located at the Spring Creek entrance stairway.
